Sometimes the most ordinary things turn out to be the most extraordinary things…  So it is with the Goshen FarmHouse front porch.  When General George Washington resigned his commission as Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army on December 23, 1783 in Annapolis—then capital of the United States of America—that front porch was a new porch and the Goshen FarmHouse was the latest edition to an already old farm called Leonard’s Neck that stretched to the Cape St. Claire Main Beach.

Built and owned by John Pettibone Gardiner, by 1798 the house (and the porch) were inherited by Richard Pettibone Gardiner who, by 1812, had 5 grown sons.  Imagine that on a mild September  evening in 1814, some of those sons may have sat on that porch watching as the 51 ships of the British Fleet sailed north on the Chesapeake Bay to attack the city of Baltimore at Fort McHenry.

(A lot of things can happen to a porch in 234 years—Yes the porch has been redone more than a few times, but it has many stories to tell.)

Please sit on our porch in our 234 year old FarmHouse and imagine the scenes and activities that occurred through the years.
