Historic Goshen Farm Officially Recognized by National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom

The Goshen Farm Preservation Society is proud to announce that Goshen Farm, located in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, has been officially accepted into the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, a program of the U.S. National Park Service. This prestigious designation recognizes the farm’s significant role in the history of resistance to enslavement in the United States.

Goshen Farm joins more than 750 listings nationwide that document and honor places, programs, and facilities associated with the Underground Railroad—a movement that helped thousands of enslaved African Americans escape to freedom during the 18th and 19th centuries.

“This recognition affirms Goshen Farm’s important place in our local and national history,” said Linda Páez, chair of the African American Heritage Committee at Goshen Farm. “We are honored to help preserve and interpret the powerful stories of courage, resilience, and resistance that unfolded here.”

Situated in the Cape St. Claire area of Annapolis, Goshen Farm is a historically rich property with ties to enslaved labor and the local African American community. Through extensive research and community efforts, evidence has surfaced pointing to the site’s potential role in the Underground Railroad. The Network to Freedom designation helps ensure the continued preservation of the site and elevates its educational and interpretive mission.

The designation also makes Goshen Farm eligible for technical assistance and grants from the National Park Service, enhancing its ability to offer programs, exhibits, and events that illuminate this vital chapter of American history.

The Goshen Farm Preservation Society invites the public to visit an upcoming free event and engage with this living history site and support ongoing efforts to preserve its legacy.
